Nicholas Mitchell has provided voters with clear stances on key issues by responding to the 2022 Political Courage Test.
| Pro-choice | Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation? | ||
| I believe that people have a right to choose what they do with their own body. No government should tell anyone what they should do with their own body. I am adopted, I had an in-depth talk with my birthmother about why she decided not to get an abortion, she referred to religious reasons, and I respect that. She had the right to choose what she did with her body and that right needs to be restored. | |||
| Yes | Do you support expanding federal funding to support social safety net programs such as Social Security and Medicare? | ||
| Yes I do support expanding federal funding to expand these programs. Many of our seniors are worrying about not being able to afford living because of medical expenses and the rising costs of everything due to inflation. If we don't expand federal funding for these issues that we already pay taxes for out of each paycheck these social safety programs will cease to exist. With the upcoming generation, a lot of people are not investing in 401k or pensions as well as many businesses are switching from DB to DC plans that have huge implications. | |||
| Yes | Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations,unions, and individuals? | ||
| We need to change campaign finance laws drastically this is not what our founders had in mind when they set up this country. Super Pacs,Pacs,and corporatae lobbyists all need to go. Politics should not be about money. It needs to be about helping the people of our country like the founders of our country originally intended. | |||
| No | Do you support the protection of government officials, including law enforcement officers, from personal liability in civil lawsuits concerning alleged misconduct? | ||
| If the alleged misconduct is proven to have happened. People should be able to sue in civilly because in the proceedings the "alleged misconduct" will be proven to have happened or not. If you don't want to be sued civilly don't do misconduct. | |||
| Yes | Do you support increasing defense spending? | ||
| When it comes to the pay of our military i am 100% in favor of defense spending. We need to protect our troops and modernize our equipment. I honestly wish everyone could get a long but that is not the case right now. I hope someday it is. | |||
| No | Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth? | ||
| Yes | Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19? | ||
| Yes | Do you support the federal government taking action, beyond those of the Federal Reserve, to alleviate inflation? | ||
| We are A capitalistic economy. I don't think government spending should be used to stimulate the economy. When it comes to businesses getting relief for Covid-19 I think the PPP Loans were a terrible idea, and something along the lines of ERC tax credit is a way better idea. The way we measure inflation is through private industry so if a company is price gouging during a time of economic uncertainty it should be able to be stopped through congress. | |||
| Yes | Do you support the forgiveness of federal student loan debt? | ||
| I think we need to take a hard look at our higher education and how predatory the loans are. How much it costs to obtain a degree, and the overvalued importance of said degree. Along with the socioeconomic problems of getting into a traditional 4-year college. To get anywhere in life most times you need a degree which is unfortunate because not everyone can get one. | |||
| Yes | Do you support requiring a government-issued identification in order to vote at the polls? | ||
| That way we know who you say you are. We marginalize communities that may not have an address so we need to put in more polling places in remote areas like reservations that historically don't have addresses. I think every single person should be able to vote even felons who are no longer on probation they have served their time and should be reintegrated back into society as a whole. | |||
| Yes | Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)? | ||
| Yes | Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions? | ||
| We need to move away from fossil fuels as fast as possible our planet is dying we have known for decades this was going to happen, but because of the fossil fuels lobby, we did nothing. That is why we need corporations out of politics so we can do what is right and what is best for the people, not corporations. | |||
| Yes | Do you generally support gun-control legislation? | ||
| Other, I am a responsible gun owner I think it is a right, but that comes with a caveat. I don't see a practical purpose for assault rifles. I view them as pieces of technology, as the technology they are cool; yes, but more often than not these are used to kill many people and children. We need to address this issue and as responsible gun owners, we need to come to the table and help problem solve because the amount of gun violence is out of control. I'm for a national database for flagged people. | |||
| Yes | Do you support a government-run (single-payer) healthcare program, such as Medicare-for-All? | ||
| Yes | Do you support expanding paid family AND/OR medical leave opportunities? | ||
| Yes | Do you support lowering the cost of prescription drugs? | ||
| Medicine in general is too expensive. if we look at an EpiPen in America its around $600 the same pen in another country is a fraction of that cost. There is no difference between the 2 pens except for price. Am I for Medicaid-for-all, yes I am. do I think it will ever pass, eventually once we get the healthcare corporations out of politics. | |||
| Yes | Do you support increasing security along the southern US border? | ||
| No | Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship? | ||
| I am for increasing security across the border for fentanyl coming across the borders. We need to become a country that is more accepting of immigrants because we are a nation of immigrants. We need to make an easier path toward citizenship it is so difficult right now and it's not fair, Some people are escaping places of extreme violence and poverty and just want a better life we need to have more compassion on this issue. | |||
| Yes | Do you support economic intervention as a means of resolving international conflicts? | ||
| Yes | Do you support the U.S. providing increased offensive military aid to Ukraine? | ||
| Anything to avert more people dying I am for if that is economic sanctions I am for it. When it comes to Ukraine they were not asking for a war but Russia decided to invade and with the Budapest Memorandum, we promised to security assurances even though they were not guarantees we should continue to help Ukraine. | |||
| Yes | Do you support raising taxes, on any income or on any entity, to promote economic growth? | ||
| Everyone should pay their fair share of taxes. Which is right, corporations need to be taxed as well its commonsense and corporations have gotten away with far too much for far too long. | |||
| Yes | Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)? | ||
| I think as long as they are not economic sanctions due to war, or other unfair economic practices. That we should have free trade I think it would stimulate the economy by lowering the price of goods therefore the people will have more money to spend on things. | |||
| My top Priorities are Worker's Rights I would like to empower the worker instead of the corporation and the best way to do that is through unions. We need to give more power to OSHA,EEOC, and SEC when complaints are filed and investigated we need to redo workers' compensation laws. Making healthcare more affordable by making it so hospitals, insurance companies, and pharmaceuticals can't collude with each other on the prices of goods and services. Therefore, making the market competitive and a competitive market brings down the costs for everyone. |
